Rough start to the day, but it ended so well.
Violet was up at 6:23. Not cool. Understandably, she was a mess by 9:00. I tried to put her down for a nap, to no avail, so we headed to our adventure club outing at the Mary T. Meagher splashground (oh, but I did have my first go at the quinoa patties this morning, and they turned out fabulously! Here is the recipe).
We had a great time at the splashground. Good friends, the weather was nice, and Violet wasn't screaming like she did the entire time we were at home. When it was time to leave, she started screaming, and when I put her in the car, she screamed even harder. Poor thing. I really do think it's her teeth ... and later, after I put her down for a nap, the thought occurred to me that maybe she's upset a lot because she's weaning? I really don't know what to think, but her only 'good' nurse is in the middle of the night now. For the past few days, she hasn't wanted to nurse before nap, and she doesn't nurse much at random times during the day. If she does, it's for less than a minute. I know my milk's not gone - there's plenty in the middle of the night, and I hear her swallowing. OR she could be going through a growth spurt. I don't know. She's just crazy fussy. Sigh.
We had great leftovers for dinner - lasagna, beef stew, and quinoa patties - and then we played outside until Violet's bedtime. I took Violet in for bath while the boys stayed outside. After I got her dressed for bed, we played on the bed for about 15 minutes. When I lay my head on the pillows, she crawls up and flips over and does the same. It's so cute! After the 4th or 5th time of her doing that, she looked at me and said, "All done." I did the sign for nurse and said, "Do you want to nurse?" She crawled right over to me. I picked her up, we went to her room, nursed, and when I put her down, she didn't cry once. Times like this evening make mornings like the one we had all worth it. :o) But it gets even better!
A few minutes after Violet went to sleep, Eric came back in carrying a crying Duncan. He'd fallen and somehow ripped half of one of his toenails off (gross). So we put him in the bath and gave him a popsicle. He stopped crying. :o) Eric headed back outside to work on the yard a little (have to make it look a little more presentable if we'll be moving in the next year or so) and Duncan and I headed into his room. We read 2 books, as usual, talked, and hung up his clothes that he'd taken off the hangers the previous night. Then I sang him a song and said goodnight ... and he didn't cry.
You know when you hear some things over and over and you think, "Well, duh, that makes sense," and you think you already do it? For example, when you hear that you should pay attention to your child and treat them like they're real human beings ... I thought I did that a lot more than I do. Tonight was the first time in a long time that I actually did, and it felt so good. Yeah, it takes more time, but I'm not in a hurry. There's nothing more important than them.
