Hey, first post of the year! Since this blog's inception in March of 2006, I have not gone this long without a post.
I have been genuinely busy since the beginning of the year. I finished my training course to become a placenta encapsulation specialist, and will be certified in a matter of weeks. I have almost 10 placentas lined up through July and I am beyond excited. Just this week, I received two inquiries from random people asking to have theirs done. My website will be up and running VERY soon, so I'll have a big reveal with that, too.
We've also fallen in love (well, me more than Eric, as it usually goes, but he's a believer, too) with doTerra essential oils. We're using them for our healthcare needs instead of medicine, and so far, they're working just as well, if not better. I love feeling like I have control instead of having to go to the doctor and get an antibiotic. I love that they're completely natural. I love that they smell good, and I love that there's an oil for EVERYTHING. I love learning new things about them. In a nutshell, I love them. Duncan started coughing yesterday, so I put some Breathe (doTerra respiratory blend) on his chest, neck, back, and feet all throughout the day today, and he stopped coughing as much. He woke up from nap with a fever, so I put peppermint and lavender on his feet and his fever went down. He also said his ear hurt, so I put basil, melaleuca, and lavender on a cotton ball, put it over his ear, and put a bandaid on it. His ear pain went away less than an hour later. As for Violet, I put OnGuard (doTerra immunity blend) on her feet to boost her immune system so hopefully she won't get sick or a cough. There is an oil for EVERYTHING.
In other news, we bought a van in February. Eric's Volvo was on its last leg and we had to do something quickly. Our plan was always to buy a bigger car once Eric's 'died,' so that's what we did. We purchased a 2007 Odyssey ... yes, I'm adding to the chaos that is Odysseyland in the east end of Louisville. I've accepted the fact that we bought the most popular car on the road, and that I may have trouble some day finding my own van in the Target parking lot. However, there's a reason they're so popular, right? The only thing about it that I'm not in love with is the gas mileage, so I still drive the Camry whenever I don't have the kids with me.
Duncan's 3rd birthday seemed like a week-long celebration. We had a playdate with friends on Friday, the 3rd (during which the kids in the basement decided it would be a great idea to dump out the entire container of cat food AND the newly-cleaned cat litter box ("sand box") all over the floor and play in it), lunch with Eric's family on Saturday, dinner with my family on Sunday, a celebration with parent/child at Waldorf on Monday, and a celebration on Thursday at Harvey Browne. Phew. Over a month later, Duncan still sings "Happy Birthday" daily. He is also very much 3 years old. Temper, what? I work on myself every single day to parent and discipline more gently. It's much more difficult than I ever imagined, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Duncan is 39 inches tall and has been hovering around 36 pounds for quite some time. Potty training is pretty good - he only wears diapers at night now, and the whole pooping thing is getting better. He still resists it sometimes, but will sit on the potty even when he doesn't want to.
Violet will be 11 months old on Sunday and I love this age. She laughs and smiles constantly, is a relatively good sleeper, eats anything and everything, and is cruising the couch ... though, she army crawls just like her brother did! Duncan army crawled until 11 months, so we'll see if she ever crawls for real, too. :o) I think she'll be walking sooner than 15 months (when Duncan did). Summer will be an exciting time! Violet still has 8 teeth, though we expect some more anytime! She takes 2 naps most days, but does just fine with only 1. She goes to bed at 6:30, wakes up twice in the night to nurse, and wakes for the day between 7 and 8.
That's all for now. I don't plan on waiting another 3 months to post again, but you never know. :o)
