Breastfeeding and Bookshelves ... but not together.

Several people have asked me recently if I will be weaning Duncan soon. I have to guard how I respond to this question because people who are not mothers and/or have not breastfed do not understand that there is no good reason to wean your baby. The longer that you can breastfeed, the more beneficial it becomes. Reference: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/bfextended/ebf-benefits.html. I still enjoy breastfeeding, although it's a bit nerve-wracking at times when I feel like my supply is low. I'm taking Fenugreek, though, and eating oatmeal. Hopefully this will remedy the situation soon. Oh, and drinking lots of water, too.

I can honestly say that, to me, working to make breastfeeding successful was harder than labor and delivery. I wanted to give up 10 times a day in the beginning (and after I had to have that "minor surgery"), but I'm so glad that I didn't. Formula was invented for a great reason - for those women who cannot breastfeed! However, the majority of women CAN breastfeed. But anyway ...

We put up the bookshelves last night! They're not installed, but they already make the kitchen look much bigger! I can't wait to start filling them with our stuff and reorganizing the kitchen. Yay for more storage space! There will be shelves and glass doors on them, too, but you get the general idea. Eric is going to install trim around the edges to make them look "permanent." Oh, and the paint color is new, too. Eventually the entire kitchen and living room will be this color, and the hallway and upstairs will be a lighter shade of the same color. Our cabinets will match these Ikea bookcases (well, pretty close), and we'll have black handles on them. We'll also paint the kitchen table (probably black - would the white look better? Thoughts?) and the end tables in the living room.

I'm going to pick up a bench (with storage!) with my mom today that we're buying off craigslist. It's going to go in the front hallway. We'll paint that white, too, and possibly hang hooks over it so we can put some coats or something on it. I think it will look great!

Any decorating ideas/thoughts greatly appreciated! I've gotten a lot of inspiration from Young House Love, one of my favorite new websites.

The table would look great black -- nice contrast to the lighter colors. That's how I want my kitchen when we get a house -- white cabinets but a black table....but the table we're going to get only comes in white, so we may have to paint it or get over it for a while :) Love the new look!

And good luck with the continued breastfeeding! My cousin nursed for 3 years...now, that's admittedly crazy-long, but you'll know when you and/or Duncan are ready, so do what you feel is right for you!
