This weekend was wonderful. I got to spend quality time with family, especially Seth and Jeanine and my parents, and we had a great time with our extended family, too.
We drove down to Nashville on Thursday night and picked up Seth and Jeanine from the airport. After a stop at Sonic and a wild goose chase back to the hotel, we went to bed. On Friday morning we had breakfast (sans Jeanine) and headed to Pickwick State Park around 11:30. We arrived around 2pm after a stop for lunch at McDonalds. Everyone pretty much arrived at the same time, which was kind of weird, but good, too. The "Meet and Greet" that was planned for 8:00 that night was almost unnecessary because we all started hanging out and talking with each other right away. It was so great! Seth, Jeanine, Eric and myself took a drive to the Pickwick Supermarket for some necessities and headed back for dinner. We had the buffet in the restaurant at the Inn and then had our "Meet and Greet." We all went to bed pretty early that night.
On Saturday, dad and Seth and I went running at 8am. We had breakfast when we got back and Eric and I went to the pool right after that. Jeanine and Seth met us there for a bit before our picnic lunch at 11:30. That was pretty nice. Some of the guys started playing Bocce Ball, but Jeanine and I headed back to the pool. I stayed out for about an hour before I felt myself starting to get burned, so I went back in for a little bit and then walked up to where a bunch of people were playing volleyball. They finished right when I got up there - otherwise I would have played because it looked like a lot of fun! Eric and I relaxed a little bit, and then he went to play tennis with Pam (aunt), my dad, and Jackson (cousin). I walked down to Jeanine's room and we watched "A Walk to Remember." Aww. :o) A little bit later, we showered and got ready for our "Happy Hour" and group pictures. Dinner followed the group pictures, then we had a talent show and a slide show. The talent show was great - I wish that my dad and I had done a duet. Oh well, it's too late now. After the entertainment, Seth, Jeanine, Eric and myself went back to their room to drink a little bit and laugh and talk about stupid things. :o) We ordered a pizza, too! We had a great time and it was probably my favorite part of the whole weekend. We went to sleep around midnight.
On Sunday, I woke up at 7 and went downstairs to have breakfast with mom, dad, and Seth ... it is on such rare occasions that we are together, just the four of us. I love those times so much ... and I miss them. I hate that about life - how you don't realize how wonderful everything is until you don't have it anymore. Well, or you don't have it very often, in this case. Anyway, we said goodbye to everyone and packed the car and headed back to Nashville. We went to Opry Mills for a while to waste some time before we dropped Seth and Jeanine at the airport. We had lunch at Tony Romas and then dropped them off. We got home to Louisville around 9:20pm. It was a long day, and sad day, too.
Grandma started chemotherapy today. She also has radiation every day for the next week. She has tumors that are getting much much bigger by the week, and she can't walk very well anymore at all. This is why the weekend was bittersweet - her health is failing very quickly and everyone knows it. It makes me extremely sad to know that the next time a lot of us will see each other will not be for a happy occasion. :o( But other than this, the weekend was wonderful and much more fun than I ever expected it to be. Yay for family reunions. :o)
Today at work I felt very efficient. It was a good day. I went to the gym right afterwards, then went to Target, and came home for a short nap before Eric got home. We had dinner and then started unpacking. Now we're just sitting here relaxing on the bed. It's nice. :o) I'll post some pictures from the reunion later - but Seth will probably have better ones, so if I get a link for that, I'll post it.
