What a weekend

We had a great weekend ... for the most part.

On Friday, we had everyone over for some BBQ and good conversation. There were quite a few people there, and we had lots of fun. Chrissy and Jason arrived safely.

On Saturday, I went out and got some donuts and OJ, and later we ate lunch with Ashley and Kelly at Red Robin. Went to Kohl's and then to Oxmoor. I got a dress for the reception from Motherhood Maternity (I love that store) for $20 while Chrissy got a pedicure. Then we headed home to get ready for the party. We had a great time there ... dancing, laughing, eating. Chrissy, Jason, Molly, Marianne, CJ, my mom, Eric and myself were the last ones to leave the party.

On Sunday, after Chrissy and Jason left, Mabel started throwing up. The first one was just a hairball, but then she threw up again and it was a little bit bloody. We were very worried, so we called our vet and of course he is out of town. We went to the emergency clinic in Middletown and they said that her temperature and color were good ... her abdomen wasn't sore or anything, so they sent us home with some pepto bismol-looking stuff to give her to coat her stomach, and they gave her fluids and some anti-nausea medicine while we were there. We set her up in the upstairs bathroom to keep Jack away ... gave her some food and water and a little litter box up there. We finished watching most of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" and went to check on her. She had thrown up more blood, only this time that's ALL it was. No foam, no hair. So we decided to take her back.

I am so glad that we did - they did bloodwork and took some x-rays, and basically what is boils down to is that she is extremely constipated. As a result, she couldn't eat anything else and was getting sick. :o( So they are keeping her at the hospital right now to observe her, and they may have to give her an enema today if she hasn't gone to the bathroom at all. Poor thing. Perhaps the thing that is most upsetting is that we can tell that Jack really misses her. He was looking for her all night. Ugh, it was so sad. I mean, we are happy that she doesn't have cancer or anything like that, but it might end up being this thing called Inflammatory Bowel Disease, which I believe is similar to IBS in humans. To diagnose this, you have to do an intestinal biopsy, which involves major surgery, so the best case scenario is that we'll just have to give her gentler foods for the rest of her life. But as of last night at 11, she hadn't thrown up anymore, so that's really good. The doctor was a girl that Eric went to HS with, so she left him a message on Facebook about Mabel when she got home last night. That was very sweet of her. I hope we can bring her home today. :o(

So this has been a rather upsetting past 24 hours. It brings up questions that no one ever wants to think about ... like how far do you go with a pet? Where do you draw the line? We love Mabel so much, and I think everyone loves their pets, but what are you willing to spend? It'd be so hard to say, "No, we can't spend that much" and then as a result, your pet dies. :o( While we were there, we saw two different couples that lost their pets. One of the dogs we saw alive when the owner brought him in, and then they left crying without him. It was awful.

Well, time to work and try not to think about Mabel ... I just hope she's not scared and that she's cozy and sleeping.

This happened to the little boston terrier that we found!! He was getting so so so sick for like two days and it was SO sad. They did all kinds of tests, and finally told us that he was EXTREMELY constipated after the xray! after that we had to put 1/8 tsp metamucil in his food everyday to keep him regular :-P. It was kinda funny giving a dog that stuff!! Our vet bill wasn't TOO bad, but we took him in on a weekday and they didn't keep him overnight. My intern just lost her dog to lymphoma and they dropped $1300 trying to figure out why he was so sick. It was really really sad.

I'm glad Mabel is okay! Hope momma is doing well too!! Are you all going to find out the sex? I know a lot of people try to keep it a surprise, but I'm the type of person who can't even wait until Christmas day to tell people what I got them....so it wasn't an option for me :-).

P.S. You look so pretty in the pictures from Greta's wedding...you can DEFINITELY tell you've got that "pregnancy glow".
