It has been a very interesting past 24 hours, for a number of reasons.
First, Monday at work was just fine ... no cake orders to do until Saturday as of yesterday, so I haven't had much to do. I did dishes on Monday afternoon instead of working on cakes.
Yesterday started out normally, but while I was upstairs drying my hair, Eric got a call from his dad saying that Mamaw had passed away that morning. Very upsetting - we thought she was getting better because she had left the hospital and gone back to the nursing home. So we both went off to work and I did my usual morning stuff (salads, cubans, chickens) and then Sara said it was okay to go ahead and leave and just let her know what was going on with the visitation and funeral. So I met Eric at home around 10:30 and we went to vote. It took him a little longer because he just renewed his license on Monday, so he had to fill out a form and it seemed kind of silly to me, but oh well. We had lunch back at home and then headed to Papaw's house where we met the in-laws and Papaw. We sat at Schlotzsky's with them (a place that I suggested - there is never anyone in there when I am there, but it was PACKED yesterday) while they ate lunch and then took Papaw back home while Carol and Bill picked up some pictures from Meijer and let the dogs out at home. We talked with Papaw for a good hour or so about things from the past - the war, how life was in the 40s, etc. He's such an interesting guy. We left when Carol and Bill got back and met my mom at Kohl's. We walked around there and bought some frames for our 8x10s, then went to Target for a little bit. From there we went to mom's house and helped make some spaghetti sauce for dinner. We stayed there until 9:30 or so, watching the election results and Dancing With the Stars.
I am pumped about our country right now, by the way. And you know, even if this were the other way around - the Democrats had screwed up the country and Republicans were trying to gain control of Congress - I might have voted for the Republicans. We just need a change. Things seem so messed up to me. I like the way Eric put it one time: "When you're an engineer, if things don't work, you try something new." So that's what my opinion is - the country is so much in debt, Iraq is a mess (in my opinion, I don't think we will ever be able to "finish the job" in Iraq - there will always be people who oppose us being there and they will continue to blow themselves up while we are there), the whole building a fence to keep Mexicans out is RETARDED, and I think I'll stop there. We just need to try something new. I don't call myself educated on this stuff - I read CNN and listen to NPR, but I would in no way argue with someone about this. All I know is what I hear and what I read, and I feel the way I feel because of that. So don't kill me for having my own opinion. Obviously I'm not the only one who feels this way because of the results of the election last night. My best friend in the whole world is hardcore Republican, but we don't let that come between us at all. We just don't talk about it, even though our beliefs are polar opposites. Friendship is worth more than politics.
Today, the piano is being delivered and then I'm going somewhere with my mom for some Christmas thing (I think that's what it is). Terena doesn't need me today, so I'm not going over there.
The visitation for Mamaw is tomorrow after work so I don't have to miss it (3-5 and 7-9), and then I'll have to miss a little bit on Friday for the funeral at 10, but Sara said that was okay.
Alright, I guess that's all for now. I'm going to watch some more tv and then go to the gym, I think. Depends how I feel.
