On Friday morning I decorated a cake for Derek and Sara at Valumarket, and Derek offered me the job on the spot. I told him I'd think it over and he told me to let him know by Monday. When I got to work I had an email from Stephenie with the "revised" newsletter and all my beautiful work had been changed and articles had new sentences in them and sentences that had disappeared. So Dawn gave Crystal and myself some time to work on it. We had Chinese for lunch and the rest of the day went pretty fast. Once home, I changed and we went to my mom and dad's house and left for the Gasthaus from there. Dinner was fantastic and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. It's probably my favorite restaurant ... well, my favorite semi-expensive restaurant, anyway.

Saturday morning we got up and packed the car for our mini-vacation. We headed to grandma's house and started packing the very large truck. It was a very surreal feeling - everything in that house has been in the same exact spot since I can remember. I found some very cool things, though - like my granddad's purple heart from WWII, and a paper from the day Kennedy was assassinated, as well as a paper from the day we walked on the moon. Very cool! We got over to grandma's new place and got everything unpacked, had a quick lunch at Schlotzsky, then Eric and I wet off for Somerset. We got there around 6, picked our cabin, and drove around for while. We had dinner at a really cool Mexican restaurant called Las Penas where we watched Mexican wrestling and we had a fabulous sopapilla for dessert. From there, went to the grocery to get some food for the weekend. The rest of the night was spent watching tv and playing Trivial Pursuit: 80s Edition.

Sunday morning we went horseback riding and I loved it. The horses were old, but they were sweet. My horse was named Lady. Eric named his Chuck since he didn't know his name. I hope it wasn't a girl, haha. After that, we drove to Corbin and saw his grandparent's old house and had lunch at McDonalds. Then we drove to Stearns, KY to take a scenic train ride. It was a lot of fun, but when we were getting ready to come back from the train museum, Eric brought up the whole job thing and how it's going to be a lot less money, so it kind of ruined our good mood. For dinner we had a Tombstone, took a shower, took a short nap, then went to Baskin Robbins for some ice cream. We went to bed pretty shortly after that and fell asleep watching "Gladiator."

This morning we got up around 8, packed, and came home. We argued a lot about the job, and Eric keeps saying that it's just going to take some time for him to get used to it, but I just keep seeing him looking all sad and not talking, so it seems like there is something else that's bothing him. We've talked about it a lot, but keeps insisting that I should take the job because he knows it will make me happy. He is right - even if it is not my dream job, I know that I will enjoy it because I've done it before. We may have to make a few sacrifices because of the choices we have made early in our marriage, like buying a new house, but sacrifices can do nothing but strengthen our relationship. My mom put it in the right words, I think ... I need to keep reminding myself that Eric and I are on the same team. I guess that he can see the bigger picture. I've always had a problem with that. But I've accepted the job and I'm going to go talk to Sara tomorrow to see about a start date. Then I'll head to work and give my two weeks ... or whatever I am required to give. I know that it's good to give two weeks, but I'll talk to Dawn and see what she says.

Anyway, when we got home, we showered and had lunch, then went to the mall where I got a pair of jeans with the generous giftcard that my mom and dad gave me for my birthday. Then we went to my mom's house to wait for her to get home and I cried ... then I got online and found out that a girl I went to elementary school with, Chesleigh, committed suicide last year by jumping off a hotel in Texas. So that didn't help my mood at all. Eric and I put in "The Lion King" and then my mom got home and we talked with her a little bit. So I felt better and we went to QDoba for dinner. Eric went home and mom and I went to Ann Taylor to see if I could find anything else that caught my eye. No luck there, so mom and I came back to our house wit the coffee table in tow, and she dropped that off and then pretty much left shortly after that. We read an article courier-journal.com about Megan Schanie. She is the wife of our friend, Cameron, who works for McBride and sold us our house. He is such a great guy - there's a whole story about Megan and her surgery on the webpage, so you should go read it. It's on the front page.

So Happy Birthday to me. It hasn't been the best, but it's been with the people I love, and that's what's most important. 23 is old.
