Rough Start

I've had a rough start to the day. Well, the early part was good - Duncan finally fell asleep for longer than 2 hours (I was up at 1, 3, and 4:30) and we were in bed until 8:00. I called Camelot Piano Services yesterday and scheduled them to come out and move our piano to the basement. They were here at 10:00. After debating for about 15 minutes, they called their boss and agreed that they could not move the piano. Um, I'm paying you. DO IT, PLEASE. I understand that they are worried about hurting the walls (it's the basement, I don't care) and/or scratching the piano (it's already scratched), but I guess they aren't hurting for business these days. So now if we want it moved, we have to pay "non-professional piano movers" that cost $100 more. Maybe I'll look for labor on craigslist. Anyone ever done that?
Also, Duncan won't nap. He's been up there and hour talking and kicking.
In happier news, I talked to my parents this morning and they made it safely to Berlin.
This week has been a good one, though. On Monday, I got my haircut and we got our couch! I love it! We had chicken stir fry for dinner, and Eric said it tasted just like a restaurant. Tuesday, Eric attempted to get to work, but turned around once he saw that Seatonville was backed up all the way to El Rancho (like, 2 miles) from Bardstown Road. So, we enjoyed a fun day at home. I made chicken chili for dinner - another winner! Yesterday, I weighed in at WW and lost 3.6 pounds! It was like my first week; I was strict about writing everything down and weighing and measuring all of my food. Plus, I worked out on the elliptical every day except Friday.
I just talked to Eric and I think we're going to try and get some guys over here and rent an appliance dolly and move the piano ourselves. My brother will be in town, and hopefully we have some friends that can help.
Dear Duncan, please go to sleep. Love, Mommy.

5 Observations or Opinions:
For what it's worth, be glad that they were honest with you. We had to have my piano moved down 2 flights of stairs after our move to Indianapolis and it's ruined because they weren't honest with me about how tough it would be to move it down the stairs. Not sure what the deal was since piano movers should know how to do that, but I now have a busted piano sitting in my mom and dad's garage. :(
After calming down, I realize that they were trying to do what was best for themselves and for the customer, and I appreciate that. :o) So sorry your piano is ruined!
If I might ask...what was ruined about it? Just want a heads-up in case we try it the "Move it yourself" path.
Well, for two of the pedals will not work. We tried to have them repaired and they're still not the same. Also they bashed in the whole left side. I guess that really could be fixed but it would require some major parts and matching wood, stain, etc. Several parts on the inside are very bent. We've tried to have it tuned 3 times since then, and it just doesn't sound right. So, aside from taking it completely apart and putting it back together, I think I'm going to have to convince my husband that I need a new one. Honestly, if you had enough manpower and wrap those moving straps with the adjustable pulleys, you have a pretty good chance. Slow and steady. We didn't have enough hands...obviously.
Oh wow! If we do attempt the move we'll try our best to learn from your account. Hands, hands, hands!
