Deck Progress

So this week progress has been steady on the Scalf deck. I'm sure we worked a little each night, in between our extremely busy personal affairs schedule. HA! But seriously, my dad helped me last Sunday and we got all the joists hung. And then Rob was over at least one night this past week to help me with a two person job. Thursday I finished the cut for the angled stairs and started putting up the handrail posts. Friday I finished the posts and then on Saturday I braced all the "less strong" areas and I laid out some weed paper. HA! Not what you think. It's that black mat that keeps plants from growing through but lets the water pass through into the ground. I secured with several hundred pounds of rocks that I stole from my neighbor. He pulled them out of his yard before it was sodded and they've been sitting in dirt and weeds in the ditch behind his house. So thanks, Greg. The rest of Saturday was spent cleaning house and going to Riverfest. I'm sure Katherine will write about that though. Another entry altogether.

Today Katherine started helping put down the deckboards and that was exciting. Now it feels like a REAL DECK, not just a crapload of wood screwed together. There is one long deck board down the center of the deck and then 12 footers on either side. We finished one half of it today alone (the half in front of the back door) and we cut around all the posts and angles. This week at night I will continue to tackle the other half and my goal is to have it all decked before we leave for Chicago. Shouldn't really be a problem since I have all day on Thursday to work. And get sunburned.

I'll leave you with some awesome pics that I took! One from outside and 2 from our bedroom winder.

Yes - I know I said winder. It's just how we talks.

Winder...lol. I had a feeling you were hiding your true backwoods tendencies last time we saw you. ;-)

Deck looks great...can't wait to see it in person.

HA! I just took another look at those pictures, and the one from upstairs you can see my reflection in the window. I'm glad I had remembered to put my pants back on.
